What's this about then?

The first project will act as a creative CV. This will allow you to not only express yourself but to reflect on what makes you tick. The finished piece will be delivered as a short film / animation / audio, whatever media you feel fits you and your skillset and ambitions.

Why are we doing this?

When creating an enterprise, it is important that you consider where your skills and interests lie. A business is often a reflection of the owner. What are your ethics? What do you believe in? If your business could speak, how would it sound? Ruthless? Sympathetic? Direct?

What do we need to cover?

Throughout this four week project we will carry out some in class tasks and workshops such as personal SWOT analysis, Your Values (02a) and Evidence Modelling (02b) Nesta worksheets. We will also utilise the time for you to film / record / edit your Self-Portrait piece.

You will work on two parts however these can be seamlessly paired into one whole presentation.

Part 1 – an insight into you.

Part 2 – an insight into your business idea* and how it fits in with your future aspirations, whether as a career or preparation for university.

* Don't worry if your plans are still a little sketchy. The whole point of this course is that things will evolve as the course progresses!

What's this about then?

A five minute whistle-stop presentation where you will analyse the competition (at least five potential rivals) and discuss how this research will shape your entrepreneur decisions. Pros and Cons. USP. Niche?

Why are we doing this?

As with any venture, whether a college project or a business start-up, it is essential that you are aware of what is already out there. From this you can analyse what has been successful and what has not. Is there a gap in the market? What do your potential customers want and how can you offer that to them either as a product or service?

What do we need to cover?

Primary and secondary research methods into the industry. What do the clients want? What problem / issue are you solving? Why will the client use you over the competition? What can you do differently? Qualitative and quantitative research. Referencing your research.

During this project we will carry out some various task and workshops including the Nest worksheets: Business Model Canvas, Blueprint Modelling (03b), Relationship Modelling (03c), The Marketing Mix (04a),

What will I need to complete for the deadline?

A five minute presentation to your peers. The presentation could be a slide show, recorded piece, animation, short film focussing on at least five potential rivals, succinctly).

This will be accompanied by a 1000 word account covering 'Legal and Regulatory Framework' to show your knowledge of the industry as a whole.
